It doesn't matter that we have all heard Rocky Road to Dublin and Beggerman before sprint and energy count for a lot and you really get it with these guys. The great Celtic/Irish folk song groups are aging and what is left in their place are a bunch of pretty boys/girls who can't sing but present themselves really well. This is not the case with the High Kings they can present themselves really well and sing at the same time.
The group does an excellent job of harmonizing and enunciating the lyrics. An excellent production The High Kings.
Honestly, I listen to this and The Rogues in the gym (5am).and I have all the energy I need, even after being up with my 3 punkins all night. But this is bright and fun and deep and moving and loud and tough. I listen to it everday and I never get bored with it, and that's saying a lot for someone with so short an attention span. I took a chance buying this, I couldn't download any of the song files.
How do they manage classic and authentic and not be boring. PLEASE make more SOON. It's full of flavor and feeling and none of it is boring or grey. So much "folk" music ends up sounding like drunk hippies.
But I am SOOO glad I got it. we are HUNGRY for MORE. Totally boring. I love it.
We love it -especially "The Rocky Road to Dublin", "Marie's Wedding", "The Black Velvet Band" and my favorite "Go, Lassie, Go". Our whole family sings along (LOUDLY) with this CD.
Don't pass this one by. Be sure and check out the DVD version as well. If you enjoy Celtic music, this is a must. Product was just as described by the vendor and shipping was without problems. There are always treats that are missed on the CD alone. Some good old standards done with humor, gusto and haunting harmonies. It's a "must have" if only for the rendition of "The Parting Glass".
